Counsel Sarah Awelo Onapa is a highly respected Senior Lawyer and criminal law specialist with over 15 years of experience in litigation, legal aid, and justice sector reform across Uganda and the East African region.
Renowned for her courtroom excellence and unwavering commitment to justice, she has served as lead counsel in landmark criminal and constitutional cases, including high-profile matters before the International Crimes Division. Sarah is a seasoned advocate for human rights, gender justice, and legal access for the marginalised.
She holds leadership roles as Chairperson of YOPE and General Secretary of LASPNET and has advised numerous legal aid, governance, and development projects through organisations such as UCLF, GIZ, and ActionAid. She also lectures and mentors aspiring legal professionals.
With a strong foundation in legal strategy, mediation, and project management, Sarah combines legal precision with a passion for social impact, making her one of Uganda’s most influential voices in the justice and human rights space.
