Karen is a seasoned nonprofit leader with over 10 years of experience advancing access to justice across East Africa. She specialises in designing and implementing innovative legal aid programs that empower marginalised communities to understand and exercise their rights.
As Board Chairperson of Uganda’s Legal Aid Service Providers Network, she provides strategic direction to more than 48 member organisations. Karen has secured and managed over $2 million in funding from donors, including the UN, EU, and private foundations.
She pioneered Uganda’s first nationally accredited community paralegal training program, strengthening legal capacity in remote areas. Her award-winning legal education initiatives have reached over 100,000 beneficiaries through radio, mobile technology, and grassroots training. Karen’s work combines systemic advocacy with community-centred, gender-responsive, and digitally innovative solutions.
She holds an LLB from the University of London, an MSc in Security Studies & Criminology from Mount Kenya University, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Management from the University of Liverpool. Karen is also a member of the Commonwealth Legal Education Association.
