Digital and Media Training
By Peter Chushi Kasongo, Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, Uganda

In the heart of Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, something powerful unfolded — a story of transformation, creativity, and purpose.
In partnership with PP Media Impact, Youth Organisation for People Empowerment (YOPE), launched an intensive – aimed at empowering refugees and young people in the neighbouring host community. However, this was more than a workshop — it was a journey. A journey where cameras became tools of confidence, editing software became platforms for storytelling, and each participant took bold steps toward self-reliance.
Learning by Doing: A Vibrant Classroom Comes Alive
From the very beginning, the energy in the room was electric. Participants did not just observe — they took the lead. Young people stepped into roles as directors, camera operators, sound technicians, and interviewers. They learned the art of framing a shot, capturing sound, telling a compelling story — and most importantly, working as a team.
Every task was met with enthusiasm and pride and the learning did not end when the sessions did.
A Moment That Captured It All
As the group gathered for a photo on the final day, a young boy stepped forward. Quiet but confident, he volunteered to take the picture. In that simple moment, we witnessed something extraordinary: initiative, leadership, and the spark of future greatness. He did not just take a photo — he captured the spirit of the program.
That young boy reminded us that empowerment is not always loud. Sometimes, a single step forward changes everything.
Beyond Skills: The Power of Opportunity
Our partnership with PP Media Impact was built on a shared belief that media and computer skills are more than just technical tools — they are keys to unlocking potential, fostering dignity, and creating pathways to independence for our trainees.
Through this month-long training, participants did not just gain knowledge — they gained confidence in themselves.
A Shared Vision for Impact
Together with YOPE, we transformed a classroom into a stage for empowerment. We demonstrated that when you combine opportunity with support, anything is possible. The refugee and host communities in Rwamwanja have stories that matter — stories of resilience, innovation, and dreams waiting to take flight.
Let us Celebrate the Unseen Victories
These victories do not always make headlines. The quiet confidence of a young boy with a camera. The joy of learning to edit your first video. The pride of completing a project as a team.
These moments matter and they remind us why we do this work.
We invite you to stand with us.
Support empowerment through storytelling, digital literacy, and education that changes lives.
